Where to begin?...Growing up for me was honestly like something out of a storybook or better yet, like all the good parts of “Pleasantville”. We lived in an adorable little Cape-cod in the very same neighborhood that my parents grew up in. It was one of those places with the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker and even a corner grocery store and an ice cream parlor. Everyone knew each other and it was incredibly safe...nothing bad ever happened there. My friends were the children of my parents childhood friends and we all grew up together. Playing hopscotch, having lemonade stands and playing with our dolls. or in my case, my stuffed animals.

My Grandparents lived only a few houses away from us and I was always at their house and up in their attic looking for treasures. The attic was a wonderland of fabrics, laces, trims and so much more. My grandmother had saved everything and even had bits and pieces of some of my mom’s prom dresses that she had made, scraps of fabrics from her own girlhood sewing projects and when we were up there together she would tell me all kinds of sewing stories...and I loved it!

My mom and grandma were always sewing up beautiful new clothes for me and getting me all dressed up to go into town on the city bus for tea or luncheons. I vividly remember those wonderful days of the three of us spending time together. A lot of that time was spent in fabric shops picking out fabrics, and trims, laces and buttons. Oh, to have those kind of shops again would be just wonderful. I even remember the smell of those old shops and it conjures the best memories.

Once I was in school, my favorite subject was...Home Ec. no big surprise there! Of course because I had learned to sew at such a young age I was a bit of an over-achiever during the times when our teacher was teaching sewing. Most of the kids would make a pillow or maybe an apron...me on the other hand would return to class the following week with an entire quilt. My love for sewing and creating continued to develop I was always creating something. Sewing costumes for school plays or creating elaborate designs for Halloween. I even started designing my own clothes and perfecting my own personal style. The years passed but my sewing was always there.

Yup...that cute little kid is me!

Fast forward to now....

Now, I’m a wife and a mom and I’m living my dream of being able to carry on some of those wonderful traditions that I grew up with and creating memories with my family. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that Abby has that creative gene too and that I am able to share my passion with her. From the time that she was old enough to spend time with me in my sewing room she has been at my side. I will never forget how when she was three she used to pick out fabric from my stash and bring it to me and say “Sewing machine it Mommy!” Now she is six and just like me when I was her age she loves to go fabric shopping and create things for her beloved stuffed mouse, “Diddlina”. Whenever I am in my sewing room Abby is always at my side picking through her scrap basket and then creating the next “outfit” for her best friend!

Do you know hard it is to find pretty

and feminine clothes for little girls???

As I am sure many of you have felt the same thing. When Abby started growing out of the cute toddler clothing and suddenly the choices available were not what I had in mind for how I wanted my daughter to dress. Where were all the sweet little girls dresses and pinafores? So, I started designing and sewing all of her clothes and the response we received was overwhelming. I started receiving tons of requests for custom  clothing and then a demand for my own collection of patterns with my designs. After months and months of thinking about it and tons of encouragement from my friends and family I finally decided to give it a try.

I had already started journaling a lot of my designs on my personal blog named “Olabelhe” so it only made sense that I used that same name for my little company. In the summer of 2009 I published my very first pattern and then shortly after that opened the doors to my little on-line pattern shop. Since then my business has grown and grown and I am having the time of my life. Not only am I designing and creating clothes that my daughter loves but also turning them into patterns for you to sew them up into adorable creations for the special little girl in your life. This journey has been so much fun and I have had the  opportunity to meet and work with some of the most amazing people. I have so many more ideas and I am really looking forward to the future to see what wonderful things it will bring our way. Thanks to all of you “Olabelhe’s” success continues to grow and I am so thankful.

This is how it all started...
